Nirvana Day Ceremony at RKINA

Nirvana Day Ceremony at RKINA - Buddha statue

February 15 is Parinirvana Day, a day in Japanese Buddhism that celebrates when the Buddha achieved Parinirvana, or complete Nirvana, upon the death of his physical body. We celebrate the death of the Buddha because we Buddhists believe that since he was Enlightened, he was free from the pain of physical existence.

RKINA members gathered in Irvine, Orange County, and celebrated Parinirvana Day of Buddha with a Dharma Talk, reading passages from the Sutra describing Buddha's last days; and a Hoza session, reflecting on the teaching of transcience by reflecting on one's own future death and the death of loved ones. A beautiful painting of four female deities created by one of the members was shared with and appreciated by the sangha.
